Friends of Parkville Nature Sanctuary was founded in 2015. Led by president Jeanne Pyland and a board of directors, the group plays an active role in generating donations to enhance the nature sanctuary. The Friends of the Parkville Nature Sanctuary (FOPNS) is the nonprofit, funding partner of the nature sanctuary.
A 501 (c)(3) corporation, the Friends group raises money to help fund projects in the nature sanctuary that enhance the beauty and appeal of the area. For example, the group played a major role in the recent construction of a butterfly garden near the entrance to the nature sanctuary. It also is funding colorful interpretive signs that will be seen at different vantage points in the 115-acre sanctuary.
In 2018, the Friends group started a photo contest, where visitors enter monthly competitions of images that display the flora and fauna that makes the Parkville Nature Sanctuary unique. To enter, check the Contest Rules.
